2017 New Zealand Trip - Part 1

After a few years delay, we managed to go to New Zealand to meet up with Gordon, my younger brother and his children and also take the opportunity to visit most of New Zealand's North and South Islands.

As it was along way to fly, we broke our journey in Singapore for two nights and Sydney, Australia, for 3 nights.

We left Manchester Airport on Wednesday 25th October and flew via Dubai to Singapore by Emirates Airline's A380. Total flight time was over 14 hours.

Part 1: Singapore..........

We stayed in the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, Singapore

Excellent hotel, super breakfasts however we did not have a waterfront view.

What did we do in Singapore?

Let me first say, it was 30C and 80% Humidity.

We walked down the waterfront and visited the Quays in the evening.

We had a Chinese meal at Clarke's Quay in a very upmarket restaurant. Then we went for an evening trip on the Singapore Bumboats around the quays.

And saw the sights

The next day we used the Sightseeing Tour Bus which wan't cheap but it allows us 24 hours to tour the city. There were several routes and we travelled on most of them over the next 2 days. Well worth the cost.

We stopped off at Raffles and had a Gin Sling.

Back to the bus and we ended up in the "Gardens by the Bay"

Firstly we went into the Marina Bay Sands Hotel and managed to get up to the top floor for the view.

Then walked down to the Gardens by the Bay and went into the Cloud Dome.

When we left the light show was just starting so we sat under the towering flower columns and watched to the end.

We walked back through the Sands Hotel to Marina Bay and were surprised to see 1000's of people sitting on the steps of the Bay especially as it was 11:00 pm.

Little did we know what was to come, a "Laser Light Show".

After that, as it was very late and a long way, we took a taxi back to the hotel. The taxi driver was from Chinatown and knew everything about English Football!

The last day was spent in the city areas we had not visited, including Chinatown. It was very hot again.

We both loved Singapore.

We left Singapore on a night flight to Sydney. Although it was booked as Emirates, it was a Quantas Flight which was full and, let's just say, no way up to Emirates Standards. Would we pick to fly Quantas again - not if we had the choice!
