2017 New Zealand Trip - Part 4
Fox Glacier, Mount Tasman and Mount Cook
We were greeted in Fox Glacier with heavy cloud obscuring the mountains, however, the next morning the weather relented and we woke to clear skies.
We had already pre-booked a helicopter ride up to the Glacier so were were able to go.
And a short video, with stills, from the helicopter
Very enjoyable flight. Would highly recommend Fox and Franz Heliservices.
Back on the ground we drove the mile to Lake Matheson, where many photographers have take superb reflection shots of the mountains. Unfortunately, the weather did not oblige for us as the clouds came in again.
Almost a reflection in the next to last photo.
After our walk around the lake, 4.4km we stopped at the Lake Matheson Cafe and had a nice meal.
We then drove to the over viewing area for the Fox Glacier but it was difficult to get near as the pathway had been washed away during the winter. Below is the best, long distance shot.
The glacier used to extend a lot further before Global Warming
There was a small waterfall nearby so I had to try and get a photo.
This was our last day in Fox Glacier and the next morning we set off for Queenstown.
